2010 is shaping up to be a massive year for Bryan with a significant increase in solo material, vocal tracks and collaborations right across the musical spectrum. This year will also see him launch his very own label entitled KEARNAGE (Carnage) Recordings. This label will be used an output for a number of unreleased projects and also showcasing the remixing talent of up and coming producers. An ever filling diary is further evidence of a dj in demand and with further appearances in America, Asia, Australia, Europe and the UK indicating that there appears to be no letting up.

Here Godskitchen takes a bit of time out with the man himself to get a little insight into his background and what makes him tick! And he has even thrown together a lovely promo mix exclusively for Godskitchen for you to get an idea of what to expect at the end of the month!

First off Bryan, how the devil are you on this fine day?
I'm good thank you. A bit tired from the weekend's activities but I'm in the middle of moving house so I've no time to be sitting around being hungover. I've the small matter of music to work on aswell so I'm keeping myself active.

You are due to make your Godskichen debut at the end of the month, are you looking forward to it?
I'm delighted to finally make my debut for Godskitchen. I've been lucky enough to play for some of the biggest names in the UK already and Gods is no exception. I always try to do something special for any of the big nights that I play at and this will be no different, have some special stuff planned for the night.

Will this be your first time attending a Godskitchen event too?
It will be my first time playing but I have attended a number of your events at the Point Depot in Dublin dating back all the way to 2002, this was back when I was still a full time raver and only really getting into the DJing side of things. I also attended your NYE 2007 event as I travelled over with John O'Callaghan for the night and the club was extremely impressive. I'm really excited to play there.

OK, so, down to business, give us a little insight into your background, where it all started etc etc……..
It started off around ten years when I got my first set of decks which led onto me appearing on pirate radio stations and stuff like that. I got involved in the production side of things in 2002 and have pretty much spent the last eight years completely immersed in that. I've worked really hard to develop my sound right across the board and don't like sticking to just one particular style. Versatility is the key.

You are one of many Trance artists from Ireland who are doing the business at the moment, what is going on over there? Is it something in the water?
Haha, it's difficult to say but the output from the country over the last few years has being incredible. The likes of JOC, Patterson, Downey, Scarborough have all being releasing fantastic music for the last few years. I think the Irish sound has an energy and a certain character to it. There's no messing about and it gets straight down to business.

What’s the scene like over there compared to say England or further afield?
Well I think it's being affected by the recession the same as everywhere else but there are still plenty of nights happening right around the country, in fact there's almost more nights now more than ever. It's great to see that promoter's are still booking the DJ's and putting on nights even in the face of financial hardship for a lot of people.

You are well known for your turntable trickery behind the decks, what set up do you use for DJing?
Quite a simple set up really comprising a DJM 800 and 2 / 3 CDJ 1000's. I've been working hard to refine my DJing style as much as possible and try to limit the use of unneccasry FX etc and to just let my mixing and music do the talking. I always try to record as many of my live sets as possible because I think it's a better reflection of my sound and how I play and it's capture bettered in a club atmosphere. A lot of DJ's seem to be reluctant to put their live sets online for whatever reason but I have no problem putting up as many as possible. I know the way I play isn't to everybody's taste but I just stay true to the music that epitomises me. I like to do things differently.

What are your thoughts on DJs using laptops etc?
I think it's going to become more widespread and it's interesting to see what different people can bring to the scene through the use of new technology. I have no problems with it but CDJ's and a mixer are far more appealing to me personally. Laptop's seem to take the personal touch out of playing for me.

You recently(ish) launched your label Kearnage Recordings, how’s that going?
It's looking really strong and I'm very excited to finally getting it up and running. The first release is The Next Chapter and is out at the end of the month. I have some great artists on board like Fabio Stein, Neal Scarborough, Chris Metcalfe and Skytech amongst others. I'm really excited about a track of mine called "Mexican Rave" which has been causing quite a stir. That will be released in October, I'm really hoping that can push the label on.

There seems to be quite a variety of different types of tracks on there, is this a reflection of your personal music tastes?
Most definately. I don't like to label myself as a one genre DJ because I play right across the musical spectrum. I'll have trance / tech trance stuff on there alongside more experimental techno style tracks. My two track Anarchy E.P will contain two tracks under my Karney guise which is more experimental techno. The type of track that when played in clubs usually is met with a" what the hell is that " sort of moment, moments that I don't think happen enough these days as people don't seem to take risks with music anymore, a lot just seem to stick to what's safe and what's done before, that's not for me. There can be no progression without taking risks.

What would you say sets you apart from other DJs/Artists out there at the moment?
Passion, energy and the bravery to play tracks that other people won't. You should never be afraid to drop an unexpected old track.

Who are your biggest inspirations as both a DJ and a producer?
John O'Callaghan, John Askew, Ben Sims, David Moleon, Barry Connell, Mauro Picotto, Riccardo Ferri, Jon O'Bir. These are all people I have huge respect for.

What tracks never leave your record bag?
Livio Tracks - Perpetue
Johnny Shaker - Pearl River (For English gigs)

What’s next in the pipeline for you? Big tracks to look out for, albums etc?
I have a serious amount of stuff on the way. Collaboration's with Nick Sentience and Tom Colontonio. My track "Goosebumps" is out in October on Subculture. My track "Ong Namo" with Snatam Kaur is currently been remixed by the Neptune Project and more news on the release of that will be coming soon. I'm working on some slower melodic stuff under my new "Shattered" alias. All my techno stuff will now be done under my "Karney" guise while the trance/tech trance gear will all be done under the name "Bryan Kearney". I've also started work on my debut artist album and this will be called "Kaizen". There's lots to look forward to.

Finally, and almost most importantly, what can the GK fans expect from you at the end of the month?
Fast paced, in your face diverse club driven music.

Thanks Bryan, see you on 28th August.
