Everyone loves Easter don’t they? Especially when you get a few extra days off work and have the odd Mini Egg knocking about the place to guzzle down at your leisure. And with that in mind, spring is most definitely in the air my friend and to celebrate, The Gallery has gone a little bit crazy on Good Friday 6th April to bring YOU the mother of all Easter Extravaganza’s!! First on the hit list is the original superstar DJ and all round musical-colossus, Paul Oakenfold. This legendary performer has achieved so much in his career that has spanned over 20 years. From the early years as a hip hop producer in the States... to working with the likes of Happy Mondays, Brittany Murphy, Ice Cube and Pharrel Williams... djing on the Great Wall of China... running his acclaimed label Perfecto Records and scoring Hollywood blockbusters like Swordfish, The Matrix Reloaded and Collateral. These are a just a few of his achievements during this time, and yet there’s plenty more besides – jeez, how long have you got?! Last year Oakey released his second artist album ‘A Lively Mind’ to universal approval, following up the gold selling debut ‘Bunkka’ from 2002. As a DJ, Paul continues to inspire and this will be the first of many exclusive London dates at Turnmills in 2007... just whatever you do, don’t miss it!!
The Turnmills favourite will be launching his brand new DVD – Paul Oakenfold 24/7, on the night, with an exclusive signing session for fans before the club opens. If you would like to hang out with Oakey then simply email thegallery@turnmills.co.uk. Please note, there is limited availability, so if you wanna meet the veteran jock, then you better get in there quick. 24/7 is out in all good shops on Monday 9th April - www.hifi-entertainment.co.uk/oakenfold.htm
Joining Paul will be another global superstar – Christopher Lawrence. Christopher has remained one of the world’s Top 20 DJs for a number of years, pushing the euphoric house/trance scene to the max. He very rarely makes the long haul over to the UK, so this should see The Gallery faithful coming out in force!! This week’s Easter party will be a ‘Good Friday’ all right, as The Gallery’s latest and greatest new Resident Sander Van Doorn begins a weekly residency throughout April – culminating in the big ‘Residents Special’ on Friday 27th April. The Gallery has a long and rich tradition for nurturing some of the hottest homegrown and global talent around. From legendary residents Tall Paul, Sister Bliss, Lottie, Fergie, Gavyn Mytchel and Nic Fanciulli, through to acclaimed international DJs like Timo Maas, Sander Kleinenberg, Gabriel & Dresden and Benny Benassi (all of whom first debuted in the UK at The Gallery)… we’ve always strived to discover and then develop the most exciting new DJs on the planet. We’re very proud then to have Dutchman Sander Van Doorn as our latest resident. No other DJ has made as much of an impact as Sander has in recent years and it’s only a matter of time before he joins the likes of Armin, PVD and Tiesto right at the very top. 2007 will be HIS year!! Fellow Gallery resident Gavyn Mytchel plays the all-important final set of the night, with newcomer Casey Lee Jones getting his chance to shine early on.
Meanwhile over in T2, the Curfew Time crew – that’s King Unique and James Talk – return to their favourite backroom, after a brief trip to T3 last month to celebrate their 1st Birthday at Gallery HQ. March’s Curfew Time looks set to be another fascinating affair as one of the UK’s long-running residents - Scott Bradford from Newcastle’s Shindig club, makes the long trip south of the border. Expect more out-and-out underground filth from KU and Talky, backed up by rising star James Ryan on the early warm up.
