Chicane will be back with a new album this year taking a retrospective look back at 20 years on the dance music scene. His latest single taken from this forthcoming album takes inspiration from an old 90's dance classic...

What can I say about Chicane? I’ve got more or less all of his previous albums and got a few gems of his on the wax format to. The guy is a music icon to many, including me. Good news then that he will be bring a new album out this year looking back at 20 years. The look back will take him to musical pastures of old and bring them to a new lease of life. The first of which is this new single which covers a 90’s dance classic from Gloworm called ‘Carry Me Home’. The original as I remember was one highlight of an old tape compilation called ‘Dance Zone’ and ‘Now That’s What I Call Dance Music..Volume 2’. It would seem Chicane shares a similar taste in the old beats, no wonder I’ve loved his productions for as long as I’ve loved dance music.

What has he done to it then you may ask? That’s if you even remembers the original recording, but if your music taste goes back to the 90’s then the main riff this original track had is unforgettable. One thing that’s changed is the vocalist. I can’t remember who did the original cover but for this tasteful memoir it is Steve Edwards who provides the harmonics. That’s not the Olympic triple jump champion by the way, but the singer Steve Edwards who has also appeared on singles before from Starchaser and the Shapeshifters. His vocal addition to this remake suits it perfectly and to the untrained ear you could even compare it to the original vocal.

Looking at the music It’s just a touch of class from Chicane on his rendition here. There are two nice blends to be found, an extended club mix and a Rave Sandwich mix. The only real difference here is the club mix is a little barer and stripped down than the Rave mix. The original piano riff is very much still there keeping true to the sound of the original, it would be an injustice if it were not. I really like this remake, maybe a little biased because the original was a favourite? Maybe, but I’m not going to be the only one with that opinion.

Conclusion:
This is a good omen for Chicane and his new album. I’ve not really read much into his new release but I don’t think I need to. I’ve faith in Chicane and what he can deliver in a music production. Just pre-order, no taster needed! This will provide the preview proof he is going to release a good one.
